The impact of human activities on the planet has reached every corner of the globe. It is visible everywhere and it doesn’t stop at the surface of the earth: over the years it has reached the atmosphere. The effects of climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation pose risks to the realisation of human rights, human and state security, as they undermine global peace and stability and often accelerate or exacerbate existing vulnerabilities and instability.
Is there still time to reverse course? According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), we now have all the technologies we need to bring about systemic change. We just need to take action.
